About PopularWireless Magazine

This on-line magazine is for anyone interested in exploring various personal two-way radio options including GMRS or FRS for family communication. I built these pages as a way of sharing what I gleaned from the Internet and other sources after obtaining my own GMRS license. There is a lot to know about GMRS licensing, including frequency sharing and availability, as well as radio equipment for the home and auto. Other communication options like Amateur radio, Cellular, CB, and PCS have their own benefits and pitfalls. This magazine provides helpful information to the public for all of these options through articles and the Personal Wireless Bulletin Board..

Manufacturers, distributors, and retailers of GMRS, FRS, CB, PCS, and Cellular radio equipment are encouraged to participate in the forum and the mailing list. Don't be shy. Tell us what you have and why you think we should have it! You can find out from us what our family participants want and need in communication options.

As in anything you do, caveat emptor, buyer beware. There has been at least one website on the net that offered to sell, for only $14.95, what you can already obtain for FREE. The licensing information you find here, on other personal GMRS websites, on the FCC website, or on the PRSG website is FREE. The free information is more than enough to get your GMRS license. Likewise it pays to research any purchases you make before you make them. Study your options by first defining your communication needs.

The Family Radio Service can be an alternative to the complicated licensing required for the higher powered GMRS radio systems. To that end I also encourage discussion about the Family Radio Service that shares seven of the GMRS frequencies. Likewise, you may decide that CB or cellular will fill your needs.
